The Zmiana

Dawid Fik

The Zmiana (ang. Change) project is a home furnishings set made from materials found in a scrapyard. By transforming these reclaimed materials into everyday items, it aligns with the idea of creative management of excess. This concept is inspired by the handcrafted work my father has been creating over the past decades and by observing homemade goods coming to life in a garage workshop. My father, Zygmunt, was invited to the project as a co-author and co-creator of the objects, lending his expertise and experience. The set consists of five elements: a chair, a table, a stool, a shelf, and a candle holder in three variants. Each of these is the result of domestic processing of found metal waste, giving them a unique character.

Dawid Fik is a designer who uses sociological and anthropological approaches in his design process. He relies on observation and the combination of often disparate elements, creating a bridge between the past and the future. At the same time, he blurs the boundaries between art and design. In his projects, he increasingly works with materials, acquiring knowledge about processes and material treatment. He often draws on experience gained in the field of graphic design. Recently, he has developed a passion for ceramics, metal, and craftsmanship.
